Today is Emmy's last day of school for the summer - 1st grade is over! She had another great year, and as always, I am amazed at how much she has learned. She is an excellent reader. Her teacher was telling me about how impressed she was with her reading. She also is a great writer, and is good at spelling.
This month has been a fun one - a couple of weeks ago was her field trip to a nearby strawberry farm to pick berries. I went along as a parent chaperone, and it was quite an adventure. Our bus broke down on the way there, and we were stranded in the middle of nowhere with 60 1st graders for an hour until another bus arrived to pick us up. Once we finally got to the farm it was fun, we all got to pick a quart of strawberries to take home, we got to try some homemade strawberry ice cream, and the kids had story time.
The following week was Field Day. I was there to watch many of the activities, and it was fun to watch. First Emmy's class lost the tug-of-war, but then won the water relay. I also watched lots of other activities - an obstacle course, jump rope, basketball, and face painting. After lunch the kids got to play outside in a bunch of inflatable bounce houses.
Wednesday morning was 1st grade Awards Day in Emmy's classroom. My little girl received several awards, including Best Artwork, Reading 100 Words per Minute, and Good Attendance. She also received a special medal awarded by the school principal - the only one in her class to receive one - for getting straight A's all year. :) I was a proud mama!
