PSF - Daddy is Cooler than Me...

Because he makes really neat lunches for Emmy while I am out. I am definitely not that artistic! Emmy adored it, and has talked about it several times since she ate it last weekend. Who knew that bologna and cheese could be so fun? ;)

Photostory Friday - Lemonade Stand

Last week, I mentioned we were getting ready for our neighborhood garage sale again. It was last weekend, we got rid of some junk, although the bigger things I was hoping would sell didn't. Oh well. We still made a small amount of cash.

Anyways, Emmy had been wanting to have a lemonade stand for a while now. Something she saw on TV, I think. So, we thought that the garage sale would be the perfect opportunity for her to have one. She helped me make some Halloween ghost cookies, we made the lemonade, Ray set up her stand, and she made the sign. She was ready to go.

She looks thrilled, doesn't she?

Here is a closeup of the sign she made. I love it. She drew a picture of the lemonade pitcher and one of the ghost cookies. And they were 50 cents each.

Over the course of just 2 hours, she had sold all of her cookies and the entire pitcher of lemonade. She made a little over $9.00. I am pretty sure at that point that she was making more money than I was with the garage sale.

That afternoon, we cleaned up the garage sale stuff and headed to Target, where Emmy got to spend her $9.00 on anything she wanted. This is what she chose:

Photostory Friday - No Babies Allowed

Last night, Emmy and Daddy were playing. She was the princess, wearing her crown and all. Daddy was the king, even wearing a homemade crown made of notebook paper that Emmy had made (don't you wish I had a picture of that??)

Emmy and Daddy made rules for their kingdom. The first rule was that I had to use their titles when speaking to them - Princess Emmy and King Daddy.
The next rule Emmy created - no babies allowed. Then, in case there were any questions, Emmy made a sign to announce the rule:

This rule was really was not a problem, because Pooky was already in bed.

I love the sign.

The third rule was no mommies allowed. She did not make a sign for that. ;)

Photostory Friday- Block Party!

Last weekend, our neighborhood had a block party, complete with catered BBQ (we are in the South - what else would it be??), music, and 2 inflatable bounce houses for the kids. We love our neighborhood, it is full of kids, and our neighbors and good friends were also planning on going, so we were looking forward to it.

My kids LOVE those inflatable bounce house thingys. Here is Pooky - I love this shot:


But, Pooky's cute smile is not what my PSF is about.

About an hour into the party, Ray and I were enjoying the yummy food, our kids were running around like wild banshees, all was good. I looked up to see a group of "bigger" kids (over the age of 6) all climbing up one of the inflatables, which was ones with a slide.

I watched them stand at the top, jumping around, doing flips down the slide. I watched the inflatable start to lean to one side. Then, it started to tip over.

I really did not expect it to tip over all the way. The rental company who set these things up had properly weighted and anchored them, right? The inflatable would surely right itself back up in a minute. Right?

No. It toppled completely over, coming unattached from the air pump, and collapsed into a heap, with about 10 kids on it.
Luckily, no one was hurt. My kids happened to be playing on the second inflatable at the time, so they were fine, and my friends' boys who had fallen came out laughing, thinking it was great fun.

Turns out, the inflatable slide had NO weights or anchors on it. The second one did - but WHY did the slide not?? One of my friends who helped organize the party was immediately on her cell phone calling the rental company to yell at them, and a couple of the parents got kinda nasty with the whole situation, snatching up their children and stomping back down the street to go home.

Since no one was injured, I think it was sort-of-amusing. Never a dull moment...

Later on, we re-hooked the air pump to the slide and re-inflated it. My kids, along with several others happily bounced down the slide again, and a few Dads kept watch to make sure it wasn't going to flip over again.

Maybe I am too relaxed of a parent, but I had a great time at the party, and so did my kids.

Photostory Friday - Surprise!

And just after I promised not to blab on about my vacation any more....

The last day of vacation was the day before Emmy's 4th birthday. Although we were having a party for her at our house later, we also decided to have a small party for her with the family on vacation.

She had recently seen the movie Wall-E with Daddy, and loved it. Right before we left on our trip, we had seen some Wall-E party decorations at our Walmart, and she got all excited and decided that she wanted a Wall-E themed birthday party. No problem.

Well, the day of her party, Ray and I go to Walmart for party gear, and of course, this Walmart has no Wall-E party decor. In fact, they hardly had any party decor at all. So, we settled for some basic red balloons (her favorite color!) and some silvery-shiny Happy Birthday banners (trying to go for the metal-robot theme here). Ray found a wall poster from the movie, and that was it. While Emmy was out with Grandma Tunu, I hung the poster, banners, and a bunch of the balloons. We also had a cake and most everyone got her a present, which were piled on the counter. I think that despite our lack of options, we did a pretty good job.
When Emmy got home, I was so excited to see her face, especially when she saw the Wall-E poster. She walked in and everyone was yelling "Happy Birthday! Surprise!". This was her reaction.

Not exactly jumping up and down with excitement.
At least she sort of smiled. I think she was just trying to figure out what everyone was doing, since we were all standing there, anticipating the reaction. Oh, well.

She did later comment on the poster, and she wanted to hang it in her bedroom, which we did. The party was still a success, and my little girl was happy with her Wall-E themed party, even if it didn't turn out exactly as I had imagined. :)

Photostory Friday - Bowls of Money

A couple of months ago, we emptied Emmy's piggy bank which had been collecting our loose change for years. I used the very full pig as her first "lesson" on money. We divided her coins into 4 separate bowls then wrapped them to take to the bank.

I took the photo because I wanted to remember how cute she was that day, carefully putting each coin into the correct bowl, calling the dimes "diamonds", and her amazement over how much money her little piggy had accumulated.

A few days later we went to the bank and deposited $19.00 in her savings account. She proudly handed the rolls of coins to the bank teller all by herself.

Love it.

Photostory Friday - Reading Together

I am so happy to be participating in Photostory Friday this week - I love a theme! The deal is to post a picture that I took, then tell about it - easy enough. Here we go ~

I caught the 3 little ones (my 2, plus Baby R who I keep during the day) quietly sitting together reading up on Emmy's bed. Amazing. For 5 whole minutes, the three of them just sat, and read. I just sat back, and enjoyed the silence....

Then, just like that, it was over. Pooky stole Baby R's book, she cried, I intervened, jumping on the bed ensued, I made them stop, Emmy got mad..... oh, the joys of mommyhood.
