Photostory Friday - Lemonade Stand

Last week, I mentioned we were getting ready for our neighborhood garage sale again. It was last weekend, we got rid of some junk, although the bigger things I was hoping would sell didn't. Oh well. We still made a small amount of cash.

Anyways, Emmy had been wanting to have a lemonade stand for a while now. Something she saw on TV, I think. So, we thought that the garage sale would be the perfect opportunity for her to have one. She helped me make some Halloween ghost cookies, we made the lemonade, Ray set up her stand, and she made the sign. She was ready to go.

Here is a closeup of the sign she made. I love it. She drew a picture of the lemonade pitcher and one of the ghost cookies. And they were 50 cents each.

Over the course of just 2 hours, she had sold all of her cookies and the entire pitcher of lemonade. She made a little over $9.00. I am pretty sure at that point that she was making more money than I was with the garage sale.

That afternoon, we cleaned up the garage sale stuff and headed to Target, where Emmy got to spend her $9.00 on anything she wanted. This is what she chose:

Bowling with Recyclables

Emmy's new favorite game to play is bowling, using a few empty plastic bottles from the recycling bin and a ball. She came up with the idea all by herself, and it is actually pretty fun - when she lets me have a turn!.

Emmy, a Truck, Work, Vacation

Random stuff for today....


Emmy wrote her name all by herself this morning. She did ask for help with the "Y" after she was done, but if you look close, there is a little curvy line by the "y" that she had written first. Oh, I was a proud mommy this morning!

We received this truck as a hand-me-down toy for Luke yesterday from some new friends. Seeing it sitting on the floor made me realize that we really do have a little boy in the house now. I don't think that we really have too many stereotypical "boy" toys yet - just lots of Dora and pink! I am sure that it is the first truck of many more to come over the years...


Emmy, Luke, and I are leaving tomorrow afternoon to drive down to St. Augustine to visit my sister. My mom is also going with us. (Ray was supposed to come with me, but he ditched me...) :(
However, we will have a good time - looking forward to shopping and relaxing with my mom and sister.

And... I have taken a manager position at the Pie. I can't remember if I ever wrote about my latest work drama, but I quit the steakhouse and went back to the Pie, where I used to work. Now I will be working a lot more than I used to, but hopefully making a little money, which will be a nice change. We'll see how it goes.

Oh, and I fixed my blogger so that it isn't in Vietnamese anymore.... that is nice.

Cart Thingy

I am so very excited. Last night, I purchased one of those cart thingys - you know, one of those covers that sits inside the seat in a shopping cart to keep your kid away from the nastiness of the carts...? (or for you South Carolina weirdos, it goes on a buggy). I wanted one with Emmy, because she always insisted on sucking on the handle of the cart while we were shopping. Gross. Who knows what germs and other gross things are lingering on those things? It's not like shopping carts ever get washed, except for the occasional rain shower outside.
I just realized how sad I am. I am way too excited about this thing. But it is so cool! Look...

How fun! I love it.

Love You Forever

One of Emmy's favorite books for me to read to her is Love You Forever. It is a sweet book, and Emmy helps me read it: "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be".
As sweet as it is, it also creeps me out a bit. It is about a mother's love for her baby, and she always sings this song to him while he is sleeping. As the baby gets older, she still sneaks into his room, picks up the boy and sings the song. Then, when the baby is all grown up and moves away, the mother would strap a ladder on the top of her car and drive across town, break into her son's window and sing him the song. Is it just me, or is that a bit creepy?
As much as I love Ray's mom, and they are very close, it would freak me out a bit if she would occasionally climb into our bedroom window and sing a lullaby to Ray in the middle of the night....

Little People

One of the few toys that my mom kept from when my sister and I were kids is a Fisher Price Little People house and airport set, complete with an airplane, cars, furniture, and assortment of people. And a dog. It is the old Little People, before they made them fat because they were a choking hazard. My mom finally got it out for Emmy a couple of weeks ago, and she loved it! She played for at least a couple of hours, and has played a few more times when we go over there.

So, I wanted to get something similar for her to play with at home, since she does not have anything like it. The new Fisher Price houses and sets run about $30-50, so I started looking on eBay, and found a ton of them for sale. Then I got crazy obsessive over finding Little People on eBay, because there is so much out there... I love Little People! Anyways, since I didn't want to get the same older style as my mom has, I ended up with a 90's version of the house, and it came with 5 people, 2 babies, and some furniture. Oh, and a wheelchair. (for all of those handicapped Little People of course!)
Total cost, including shipping was $15. I love a deal....

And Emmy loves it too!





























Then, since I am kind of a dork like that, I started looking up all of these Little People online, learning all about the history and such. I am fascinated by the fact that there were special sets made, like a whole set of Sesame Street Little People. Then, I found that one of our old random people, who is a green guy with a white apron on, is actually Mr. Hooper from that Sesame Street set. I was amazed that we owned such a thing...

Death to the Bee.....

I am sure that every parent can remember that one toy their kid had that was the loudest, most obnoxious toy ever. Just the sound of the toy gives us a headache, and I will hear that stupid music in my nightmares for a very long time.
I would like to thank Aunt Stevie once again for bringing this toy to our home. Of course, Emmy loves the bee, even though it has been dropped a few times, and the feet no longer move, and one of the feet broke off.
Tell me this is not annoying.... :)

Creepy Car

Emmy got this Fisher Price musical car for her 1st birthday - and she still loves to play with it. She scoots around the house, pushing all of the buttons and switches, and it plays little sounds and music.
This morning, Emmy and Daddy went out to get the newspaper from the driveway, so the house was quiet for a minute. Then, I heard music playing from Emmy's room. It was the car. Playing music all by itself. I thought that maybe something fell on it or something, until it did it again.
"Vroom, Vroom! Driving is fun!" the car said in a happy voice.
I was a bit freaked out. The car is possessed. Or we have a ghost or something.
After thinking about it logically, I think that it is because the batteries are dying. I remember it doing crazy things last time the batteries were going dead. Even so, it was a bit creepy...

Why Buy Expensive Toys?

The answer to this question is simple - for the box. Sure, Emmy has had a great time playing with her kitchen set that we got her for her birthday. However, I am pretty sure that she is enjoying the playhouse that Daddy made for her out of the box it came in just as much. He was smart about it - he saved the box in a closet for a couple of months, then while they were bored over the weekend (while I got to go shopping at the Tot Trade.... oh, how I love Tot Trade), he got the box out and cut it into a playhouse. Genius!

This past weekend, I finally finished my very first sewing project ever using my new sewing machine. He is pretty ugly and looks nothing like the pattern I used, but he is cute anyways.

Thrift Store Find

A couple of weeks ago, I discovered a great Children's consignment shop over in Blythewood, which is not too far away. Emmy and I went back today, and she made a beeline for the toy section - specifically a baby stroller, which she then pushed all around the store the entire time we were there. So, I ended up buying it for her - it was $5.00. It is in fair condition, but since we got home a few hours ago, she has not let that thing out of her sight! She is pushing it all over the house with her dolls and stuffed animals in it. For $5.00, I have made her one happy kid. :)
