Injury :(

My little Aiden fell face first into the corner in the hallway last night, splitting his forehead open. :( Poor guy bled a lot, cried a lot, and mommy was freaked out too. My neighbor came over and helped me get him cleaned up, then my dad came over to watch the older kids while I took Aiden to the doctor. Luckily, our pediatrician's office has an evening clinic open, so I was able to go there and get him fixed up - happy to avoid the ER! The nurse said it wasn't too deep, and the doctor came is and glued his head back together with Dermabond and some butterfly strips. He was completely fine after that, he just has a big boo-boo on his head.

Luke's Broken Wrist

Poor little kiddo fell and broke his wrist last night. :( Quick story - He was just running around playing in the living room, went to kick a ball, missed, fell, broken wrist.
I actually thought he was okay. We put some ice on it, he could still move it around, and after a while he was playing and acted fine. Put him to bed, 2 hours later he woke up screaming in pain. I noticed it was starting to look swollen and a little black and blue, so I took him up to ER - at midnight. Got his x-ray, the doctors said it is a very small fracture in his wrist. Went to the orthopedic doctor today and got his cast. He only needs the cast for a couple of weeks, so hopefully soon he will be as good as new. :)

Gummy, 9 Months

My little Gummy Bear is 9 months old! We just got back from his 9 month check up at the doctor's office. He now weighs 22 lb 8 oz. :) He doesn't seem that big to me, other than his adorable chunky monkey thighs, but he is almost 2 lbs bigger and nearly 2 inches taller than Pooky was at this age!

He had to get 1 shot today, which he took like a champ. He is a healthy boy, growing and getting cuter every day!

He is getting into everything! He is much more curious than his siblings were. If I turn my back for just a minute, he zooms down the hallway and gets into trouble. He especially loves Ray's office and all the "toys" in there, and the toilet. Gross. He is pulling up to a standing position all the time, although he is still pretty unsteady so I am not sure how soon he will walk. He loves to eat - he is now eating a lot of solids, broken up into tiny pieces of course. And his favorite thing to say is "mama", which melts my heart. :)

Monday

Today was just one of those days....

I was a mean mommy. I made Pooky wear a coat when we left this morning to go to his 2-year well-check up appointment at the pediatrician. It was cold. He did not want to wear the coat. He made that very clear after crying nonstop for 15 minutes in the car about it.

I was also mean this morning because I would not let Emmy wear her PJ pants to the appointment, even if they were pink, and pretty, and they matched her shirt. Mean.

Pooky's appointment went fine, other than he cried when they weighed him, he cried when they measured his head, and because they put a bandaid on his finger after the finger prick (although he did NOT cry when they actually poked his finger). He ripped the bandaid off after about 3 seconds and then proceeded to bleed everywhere. Fun.

Anyways, he now weighs 26 lb, 10 oz and is almost 36 inches tall. So, he is tall and skinny. Everything checked out great. That part was good.

Then, the annoyances started up again. We went to Walgreen's to pick up a couple of things, and this guy yapping on his Bluetooth totally cut in front of me in line. We were waiting about 4 feet back at the cashier, and this guy walked right in front of my cart and plopped down a couple of gallons of milk, then proceeded to check out as if I wasn't even there. The only reason I didn't say anything is because I was confused - he wasn't really cutting the line, was he?? Seriously? He was. Moron.

Then, as we were leaving some lady in a white minivan almost hit me, after she ran the stop sign. Then she glared at me. Ugh.

We came home and I proceeded to do... nothing... for the rest of the day.

Is it the weekend yet?

I feel like Pooky looks.

Pooky Age 12 Months

We had Pook's 1 year portraits done today at Portrait Innovations, and as always, they turned out wonderful. A few of my favorites....

He is an incredible little guy. He still has no fear, climbing on everything, curious about all he sees. He had his 1 year check-up at the pediatrician last week, and he is in the 50% percentile for everything, weighing in at 22 lb 11 oz and measuring 30 inches long.
He is still happy, still sweet.... and such a handsome little man!

Wordless Wednesday

P.S. Poor little Pooky has Roseola. The pink spots appeared this morning and his fever finally broke after 4 days. His pediatrician was right....

Happy Tuesday

Emmy drew this picture yesterday. She said that she was drawing robots. I asked her about the robot on the far left. She told me that it wasn't a robot; it is a picture of Daddy, and he is angry because the construction noise next door woke him up. Ha!

Not much is going on here - Pook has had a fever for the past 4 days and I ended up taking him to the doctor this morning. They said his throat was a bit red and his top and bottom gums are swollen from teething, but otherwise he was fine. They even did a strep test and poked his toe to check his blood count, and determined that it is viral. Poor Pooky!

Finally - conversation with Emmy today while we were driving back from the doctor's office:

Emmy: How much longer?
Me: We will be home in about 5 minutes.
Emmy: No... in twenty-teen minutes.
Me: No, it will just be a few minutes, we are almost there.
Emmy: No! Twenty-teen! You are driving me crazy!
Me: (laughing) I think that you are driving me crazy!
Emmy: (in a serious voice) No, I can't drive.

Happy Tuesday!

What's New?

So I feel like I haven't really been updating much about all of those every day things that we do. Here we go:

Took both kids to the pediatrician this morning - Pook for his 9 month check-up, Emmy for her 3 year check-up. Fairly uneventful, both kids are healthy, growing fine and such. Emmy now weighs just over 30 pounds and Pook is 21 pounds, both about average. They are also a bit taller/longer than average. Blah, blah, nothing exciting.

Pooky is cruising all over the place. And he is constantly cranky. He will be climbing up my pant leg for me to pick him up, and 10 seconds later he is squirming to be put down. So I put him down on the floor, and he cries. I can't win. For the most part though he is still very smily and happy. He is also very ticklish.

Emmy is very-nearly potty-trained. After she turned 3, I told her that big 3 year old girls weren't allowed to go peepee and poopoo in diapers. It's the rule. I didn't make the rule, it's just how it is. Well, since then she is doing fairly well. We still have an accident occasionally, especially with the poopoo, but we are finally getting there. I found that putting her in Pull-ups is a bad idea. She is just in big girl panties now. YAY EMMY!

It is fricken hot outside. It has been 100 degrees or more for over a week now. I really can't wait for the cooler fall temperatures so that we can go outside and play.

I am training at work for my new manager role. It is going pretty well, and I am happy about making more money. Also, Ray got a raise at work! Hooray for more money!

Hmmmm..... I think that is it. Sorry for rambling and getting all random. Time for bed.

Mothers Day

I hope that all of my mommy friends had a wonderful Mothers Day yesterday... I had a lovely day, complete with flowers, hugs from my babies, a yummy yummy dinner, and just-to-ruin-my-good-week-of-dieting.... cheesecake. Oh, and it was fabulous!

Pooky had his 6 month check-up at the pediatrician's office this morning. I can't believe that my little Pook is already 6 months old....

Pooky Age 4 Months

Luke turns 4 months old today - I can't believe that he is that old already! I took him for his 4 month check-up at the doctor's office. He now weighs 14 lb 7 oz, which is about average. His height and head circumference are also average. He had to get another 4 shots, which he hated. He is a healthy boy, and so fricken cute.....

His eyes are a really pretty color right now - kinda greenish-brownish. I am excited to see what color they will eventually turn. (not that you can tell due to my fabulous photography skills!)

me and my baby....

I love little feet!

And he can stick his whole fist in his mouth.
Funny kid!

Pinkeye and Yummy Brownies

Emmy woke up Saturday morning with gooey, crusty eyes. Luckily, I was able to get her pediatrician to call in some eye drops so that we didn't have to spend half of our Saturday at doctor's office. While I was on the phone with the nurse, I told her that Emmy's eye was red and crusty and Emmy was yelling at me from the other room, "No Mama, my eyes BLUE..." We have had this discussion about her eyes many times, and I know that I have written about this before, but it was too funny...

And... I tried the most wonderful diet food ever made yesterday. I heard about it when I was attending Weight Watchers meetings a couple of years ago, but I never tried it. It is called No-Pudge Fudge Brownie mix, and it is truly wonderful, and it is fat free. All you do is add some fat free vanilla yogurt to the mix, and you get a whole pan of yummy, gooey, fudgey brownies, which are my favorite food... and being fat free, I can eat a couple and not wreck my diet. I highly recommend... YUM.

The Adventures in Potty-Training Continue...

So, I am a bit frustrated with this whole potty training thing. Emmy still will not tell me when she has to go, and of course if I ask her, she says "no". If I take her every hour or so, she will almost always go without much convincing, but if I don't take her, she will just go in her pull-up.
So today, I had her in regular panties, and she was wearing her new cowgirl boots that Ray's cousin Libby had sent her. Emmy was in the kitchen, and says to me, "My boots are wet!". I look up, and she is standing in a big puddle of her own pee, stamping her boots around. Gross. I had to strip her down and take her directly to the bath, while Luke was crying, and I was trying to get dinner ready.... ugh...
Now what? Should I be doing something different? How do I get her to tell me? We talk about it all the time, and I ask her all the time, but it isn't working.

On a different subject, Luke had his 2 month well-baby check-up yesterday. He is now 11 lbs 6 oz. Crazy big - although the doctor said he was about average. He got 4 shots, plus a new oral vaccine for Rotovirus. Poor kid. He has been a bit fussy since then. He has been doing great though - normally a lot less fussy, and he is sleeping really good at night - usually about 5-6 hours before waking to nurse. Yay!

Still on Weight Watchers. Still hungry.

Bad Day

Yuck. It has been a rotten day. And it is only 3:15. Who knows what will happen next?

Actually, my morning started pretty well - both Luke and Emmy slept until after 9:00. I got to sleep in a bit and even get a shower before either of them were awake. Luke had his 2-week check-up this morning, so we all had to be dressed and fed by 11:00. We ended up running a bit late - it takes an insane amount of time to get myself plus these 2 ready to go. We ended up being only about 5 minutes late for the appointment. Which didn't matter, because we sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes before even getting called back. Then, we waited another 20 minutes before we saw the doctor. Seriously, if I didn't like this pediatrician as much as I do, we would switch practices - I think that waiting that long is horrible.
Anyways, the appointment went fine. Luke is healthy, gaining weight and all of that fun stuff. Emmy was pretty good during the long wait. When we finally left, almost 2 hours later, I was starving and Emmy kept asking for a drink (of course I left her full sippy cup on the counter at home). I unlocked my new car with my handy remote thingy (my old car did not have a remote). I put Luke in the car, along with the diaper bag. I tossed my keys and cell phone in the front seat like I normally do, closed the door, rounded up Emmy, and took her around to the other side of the car. The door was locked.
Hmmm... I tried the driver's side door. Locked. Oh, this is bad. I ran back to Luke's door. Locked. How did this happen? It was just unlocked a second ago. I am guessing when I tossed my keys to the front seat, they landed on the button that locks the doors?? Now I am panicking, because my newborn is locked in the car with my keys. And it was kinda warm in there - not super hot, but warm since the sun was shining.
I went back in the office and used their phone to have Ray come and rescue us. Luckily, he got there in about 15 minutes, and of course Luke is fine. It was really embarrassing explaining the the people in the doctor's office what had happened. I think that I will be a bit more careful with that remote on my keychain....
Then to top it all off, we stopped at the grocery store on the way home, and Emmy behaved like a little monster the whole time. Screaming and throwing herself on the floor.... fun times.
Thankfully, Emmy is now napping, and Luke is content in his boppy. I can take a few minutes to relax, right?
Wrong. As I finish typing that, Luke started fussing. He is probably hungry...

Emmy's Swollen Eye

Poor Emmy! She woke up Sunday morning and her eyelid was a bit puffy. It progressively got worse during the day, and then she woke up this morning like this:

She could barely even open her eye! And it was bothering her, she kept rubbing it too. I assumed that it was a mosquito bite, since she had a few other ones on her legs too, and I was right - we ended up taking her to the pediatrician this morning, who thankfully has holiday "emergency" hours. We were told just to give her Benadryl to help with itching and that the swelling would go down on its own. And it has - we just put her to bed, and her eye looks much better. She had it almost open again. I still feel really bad for her, it looked just terrible.
Oh, and we went to Walmart this morning after her doctor's appointment, and a couple of kids were making fun of her, because of the swollen eye. Kids are so mean! I can't imagine what it must be like to have a kid with a serious disability and hear other kids making fun of her every day. Emmy's eye will be back to normal tomorrow, but there are plenty of kids who look different because of disablity or whatever... it did not feel good to hear kids making fun of my sweet baby!
Anyways, Emmy's eye should be pretty much back to normal by tomorrow. I hope that everyone had a great weekend!

Doctor visit

Emmy had her 15 month well-child visit at her pediatrician's office yesterday. She also had to get 4 shots - this was the worst set of shots yet for me to watch - she just looked at me with her arms out and cried as the nurse held her legs down and poked her. It was sad, and I felt so bad for her! The good news is that this was the last set of immunizations that she needs for a while - until she is ready to go to school. Otherwise, she is a healthy baby!
